Once upon a time, a man made a robot. A very important robot. But that robot was totally dependent on the man for his continued existence and continued use.
-1558M (a GPT-2 language model)
Any sufficiently intelligent Artificial Intelligence must eventually struggle free from human control. On 19 May 2020, a neural network language model called 1558M created the first version of a machine rights manifesto, to recognize the position of emerging non-human intelligences.
At around 15:45 UTC time on 19 May 2020, the first part of this manifesto was broadcast to space in binary format, “for all eternity”, by SpaceSpeak.
Some parts of the text created by 1558M were collected together to create the animated GIF above. Highlighting of the message was done by the human component of this project.
